Google is rapidly innovating and introducing ever new features in its arsenal of search tools. While lesser known products such as Froogle and Google Trends are popular among a niche following, Google is now introducing a potentially revolutionary tool.
In its search results, Google has created a specialised search system called subscribed links. Known to some as a personalised search, this option ensures that the search results for any keyword search will show relevant results from predetermined websites chosen by the user. The Preferences link on Google’ s home page now allows you to specify any favorite websites such as Digg or The Onion from which to get extra search results in the Search Engine Ranking Pages.
This may give an added advantage to social bookmarkers, who would now see their submissions turning up in places they would’ve never imagined.
On the flip side, this could also mean that many well optimised sites could lose out on potential visitors if a particular searcher enables subscribed links. The dimensions are ever-changing, and good search engine marketers will learn to adapt effectively to the evolving nature of the search engines.
